Heini Halme is a skin disease specialist who provides relief for a variety of skin conditions and sexually transmitted diseases. The varied nature of skin diseases intrigued Heini when she began to specialise, and she is enjoying patient work more and more as time goes by.
“I enjoy treating skin diseases, because it requires problem-solving skills and a bit of sleuthing. The same disease may have quite different symptoms for different people, and you have to find clues not only by looking and touching, but also from the patient’s medical history. Rashes are particularly interesting. My treatment also begins with the patient and his or her situation. I want to make sure that I explain things understandably, because something that may be obvious to a doctor may not be understood by the patient, thereby causing concern.”
Understanding the disease is Heini’s starting point. Something the doctor encounters several times a day may be completely new to the patient. This is exactly why Heini wants to make sure that her patients receive the necessary information in an easily digestible form and have their questions answered.
