Sari Pitkänen specialises in skin cancers, and works as the ward physician in charge of the procedural unit of Helsinki University Hospital’s Dermatology Outpatient Clinic. Sari uses her 20 years of experience to treat patients with all types of skin conditions in addition to skin cancers and procedures.
“Patient contact is important in a doctor’s work. Each patient is different and needs to be approached in their own way. The diagnostics of skin diseases is particularly rewarding, because a diagnosis is made visually and seldom requires additional examinations. Long experience is an asset, and you can always take a sample if you are uncertain.”
Sari says that a doctor is never ready, but must develop continuously. The best aspect of her work is being able to help people, engagement in all manner of problem-solving, and the treatment results obtained through procedures.
