Olga Bugaeva completed her medical studies at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Helsinki. After graduation, she worked in a research group at the University of Helsinki, receiving her doctorate in 2013. Her doctoral thesis was on melanoma. She was so interested in skin diseases that she decided to specialise in them, and completed her studies in the summer of 2024.
Olga’s expertise and skills are particularly valued in procedures, such as the removal of moles, various skin alterations and tumours, and in cryotherapy. She diagnoses and treats all types of skin diseases, such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, rosacea, acne and sexually transmitted diseases.
What she finds fascinating about skin diseases is that you often need many pieces of the jigsaw for the diagnosis – such as how the disease develops, response to medication, what rashes look like, and taking a biopsy. Dermatology is interesting also because of the variety of examinations and treatments. A lot of research is conducted globally, so new treatments are found on a regular basis. Olga keeps up with the latest developments by studying international publications and taking part in training and conferences.
Olga is calm, friendly and empathetic, and listens attentively to the patient to find an effective treatment that also meets with the patient’s hopes and expectations. “I like to tell my patients about the causes of their conditions and how the medication works to give them a better chance to affect and better motivation to commit to their treatment.”
Skin disease treatment results are quickly visible to the patient and doctor, which means that the treatment can be changed on short notice. One of the best things Olga enjoys about her work is seeing the result of her work, such as a rash getting better.
