“I became interested in skin diseases as a specialty already during my studies because of their versatility and the challenge they pose. The great thing in this branch of medicine is that it is possible to reach a diagnosis rather quickly. A careful examination of the skin and the patient’s description of how a skin condition has developed are usually enough to reach a diagnosis.”
Kerttu tries to take into account the patient’s needs and wishes as much as possible. It is important to her that both the patient and doctor have the same idea on the treatment and what is to be achieved. This is why she gives patients clear and accurate care instructions to create the best possible conditions for reaching an optimal outcome.
“The most rewarding part of this work is when you can see concretely on the patient’s skin that the treatments are working. Skin conditions often affect patients’ lives in a number of ways, and by alleviating symptoms you can increase their quality of life considerably.”
Kerttu is interested in both common skin conditions and rarer ones. She specialises in the most common skin conditions, such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, rosacea and mild to moderate acne. Kerttu also specialises in the treatment of sexually transmitted diseases. She also performs minor procedures, such as cryogenic treatment and mole removal on the torso and limbs.
