Veera Karvonen studied medicine at the University of Tampere. Already towards the end of her studies, she was sure that dermatology was the field she wanted to specialise in. In addition to the Skin Hospital, she works at the HUS Skin and Allergy Hospital.
Veera was originally drawn to the field due to its diversity and the visual aspects of the job. She says that the times when a diagnosis can be found quickly simply by looking at and listening to the patient, without the need for further testing, feel especially great. Veera also likes performing minor procedures, which are a common course of treatment in a variety of dermatological conditions.
As a doctor, she is easily approachable and makes sure to meet each of her patients as an individual. “I always work with my patient to find the most suitable treatment option for their problem. Patient encounters are the best part of my job. It is so rewarding to see how patients get better and their symptoms are alleviated.”
Veera treats patients with all kinds of skin conditions, such as acne, rosacea, rashes or psoriasis. She also examines moles and other skin alterations. Her specialisation also includes sexually transmitted diseases. She can also remove small moles or other skin alterations, as well as treat warts or precancerous skin alterations related to skin cancer. Veera welcomes patients of all ages at her practice.
