Altered cells are targeted by the treatment
The effectiveness of PDT is based on targeting for both premalignant changes and ageing skin. Before the actual treatment, a photosensitising agent is applied to the skin, due to which the treatment only targets affected cells and leaves healthy cells intact. Daylight activates the photosensitising agent and destroys the affected cells, thereby improving the skin’s condition. The patient then spends two hours outdoors in daylight. The end results are visible a couple of months later.
In general, PDT rejuvenation is applied to the face, neck, décolleté or back of the hand, depending on the customer’s needs. In addition to rejuvenation, at best the treatment has a double effect: if you have light damage or solar keratosis, these are treated at the same time.
