Breast lift or more volume?
Mastopexy procedures include removal of excess skin and reshaping of breast tissue, fat grafting and the use of implants. The procedure involves moving the nipple upwards and reshaping the breast as agreed. A nipple transplant alone is usually not enough. For best results, the breast as a whole needs to be lifted and reshaped.
A combination of techniques can also be used to increase breast volume as required, either with implants or with the patient’s own fat. This is called augmentation mastopexy: not only are the breasts lifted, but they are also increased in size. There are many techniques and combinations; which lifting technique is chosen and whether the breast is to be filled at the same time depend entirely on the patient’s wishes and goals.
In some cases it is advisable to split the planned procedure into two phases, which can be weeks or months apart depending on the circumstances. The procedure is always customised to ensure a natural and beautiful result that meets the patient’s wishes.
The recovery time after a breast lift is individual
The typical recovery time after a breast lift varies from days to weeks, and usually the final result is only seen weeks or months after the tissues have settled and recovered. A breast lift is always planned on an individual basis, so the recovery time depends entirely on the overall procedure.
A minor nipple lift can be carried out under local anaesthetic. In this case the person is discharged immediately after the procedure, with tape being sufficient to protect the operated area. In contrast, the recovery time after augmentation mastopexy can be considerably longer, and may require the use of supportive textiles.
Both recovery and aftercare are discussed at the consultation, and the scar locations are planned to be as inconspicuous as possible.
