Skin diseases specialist Johanna Höök-Nikanne is an expert in psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, acne and skin alterations. Johanna works at Helsinki University Hospital’s Lohja Hospital as the chief physician of the skin disease and allergology outpatient clinic, and contributes to the Current Care Guidelines committee which provides national treatment guidelines. Johanna was attracted to treating skin diseases by the varied nature of the field and a certain clarity, as such conditions tend to be easily visible.
“Skin conditions affect people of all ages, and cases range from infections to allergies and procedures. The condition is often very visible and you can get to the root of the problem without a battery of laboratory tests. In addition to creative problem solving, the best part of the job is being able to help the patient and achieve visible treatment results. Helping young acne patients, relieving the symptoms of a long-term condition and, for example, the development of new treatments for psoriasis are all high points in my work.”
In addition to patient work, Johanna engages in research in psoriasis and acne, which has increased her interest in these diseases. She is known as an effective and experienced doctor who can find help for a range of skin diseases. Johanna gets straight to the point in finding answers to the patient’s problems.
