Mari Grönroos is a dermatologist specialising in procedures, particularly in the treatment of skin cancers and their pre-cancer forms. She treats skin cancers through surgery, cryotherapy and photodynamic therapy. Mari performs demanding surgery in the facial area, such as transplants, skin grafts and flaps.
She also has 20 years of experience in laser procedures. Lasers can be used to treat acne scars, intradermal moles and xanthelasmas. Mari has also engaged in scientific research on skin cancers, attempting to develop the related treatment and diagnostics.
“In the first lesson of the skin disease course, I knew that it was what I wanted to do. I’m particularly interested in all kinds of skin alterations, skin cancers and pre-cancer stages. I found the related procedures intriguing. The goal is not only to treat the illness, but also to obtain the most aesthetic end result possible.
Mari has been working as the chief physician of the Päijät Häme Central Hospital’s skin disease outpatient clinic, focusing on procedures and skin cancer research. She has also participated in the development of a hyperspectral camera, which will make the diagnosis of skin cancers even more reliable.
