Vivian Lindholm is a skin disease and allergology specialist and works not only at the Skin Hospital but also at the Helsinki University Hospital in a unit specialising in skin cancers. Vivian was drawn to the treatment of skin diseases by the visual aspects of the field, by making diagnoses merely by watching, and also being able to perform minor manual procedures.
“I enjoy patient work a lot, because it gives me the opportunity to meet and help people, but it requires me to learn something new all the time and to be vigilant. When treating skin disease patients, I think it is important to appreciate not only the physical symptoms but also the mental load caused by them. I want to offer patients the best possible treatment alternative for any specific situation.”
Vivian focuses at the Skin Hospital especially on skin cancers and the identification of their precursors – the very subject of her doctoral dissertation. She likes to do mole checks and to work with patients who have a history of skin cancer or its precursor. Vivian can perform short procedures such as cryotherapy or taking a sample even during the first consultation. She also performs small surgeries.
