Research shows that Photodynamic Therapy (PDT), performed with daylight, is an effective way of rejuvenating the skin. It is used to increase the skin’s suppleness and reduce wrinkles. The treatment is not only effective, but also simple and safe for the customer.

Photodynamic rejuvenation therapy PDT
PhotoDynamic Therapy (PDT) is a method designed for the treatment of skin alterations and skin cancers. It has been found to have a major skin rejuvenating effect. Dermatologists treating premalignant skin cancer have reported that, after just two treatments, older patients were difficult to recognise because their skin had rejuvenated so dramatically.
PDT is a relatively new discovery, and a lamp is still used pretty often for the treatment. A cosmetic application of PDT has been studied extensively in recent years. The treatment corrects signs of aging efficiently, and allows the care of large areas during a single session. In Finland, depending on the year, PDT can be provided from April to late September as long as there is enough light and the temperature is at least 10 degrees Celsius.
Altered cells are targeted by the treatment
The effectiveness of PDT is based on targeting for both premalignant changes and ageing skin. Before the actual treatment, a photosensitising agent is applied to the skin, due to which the treatment only targets affected cells and leaves healthy cells intact. Daylight activates the photosensitising agent and destroys the affected cells, thereby improving the skin’s condition. The patient then spends two hours outdoors in daylight. The end results are visible a couple of months later.
In general, PDT rejuvenation is applied to the face, neck, décolleté or back of the hand, depending on the customer’s needs. In addition to rejuvenation, at best the treatment has a double effect: if you have light damage or solar keratosis, these are treated at the same time. This means that if you have even minor light damage, you should have it checked, and benefit from photodynamic skin rejuvenation.
