Skin disease specialist Terttuliisa Ahokas is one of the most experienced doctors at the Skin Hospital. She has been treating skin patients since 1972. During her long career, her positions have included chief physician of a skin disease clinic and the chair of the Delegate Committee of the Finnish Medical Association. Terttuliisa describes herself as a general dermatologist who specialises in treating young and ageing patients. If she had to choose the condition she likes to treat most, it would be acne.
“I’ve always looked after others, which is probably why I became a doctor. The same drive and a desire to share my knowledge with whoever needs it is the reason I continue working. The skin is a visible and major part of all of us, which is why the treatment of skin diseases involves a strong psychological aspect. My best moments occur when I can see a huge improvement not only in the skin but also the patient’s general appearance and mood.”
Terttuliisa is known as an open, communicative doctor who takes good care of her patients and explains things in an easily understandable way. The diagnosis of skin diseases is based on lots of experience and is often fast, particularly when based on Terttuliisa’s many years as an expert. It is important for patients to know what’s going on, how the disease affects them, and how the treatment works. Terttuliisa makes sure that her patients have the chance to be heard and that they understand the status of their condition.
